Concentrates 101: Shatter vs Live Resin vs Hash
What Are Cannabis Concentrates?
Concentrates are products made by extracting cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis. The result is a highly potent product (typically 60-90% THC compared to flower’s 15-30%).
Shatter
What it is: Glass-like, brittle concentrate that “shatters” when broken
- THC content: 70-90%
- Flavor: Moderate – some terpenes lost in processing
- Best for: Value-conscious users prioritizing potency
Pros: Very potent, stable shelf life, often more affordable
Cons: Less flavorful, can be harsh
Live Resin
What it is: Terpene-rich concentrate made from flash-frozen fresh cannabis
- THC content: 60-80%
- Flavor: Exceptional – closest to fresh flower
- Best for: Flavor enthusiasts, terpene seekers
Pros: Superior flavor, full-spectrum effects
Cons: More expensive, shorter shelf life
Hash (Hashish)
What it is: Traditional concentrate made from compressed trichomes
- THC content: 40-65%
- Flavor: Earthy, traditional
- Best for: Traditional cannabis users, natural extraction preference
Pros: Solventless, traditional experience, usually affordable
Cons: Lower potency, quality varies
